At around 1:35 p.m. on August 24th, police were dispatched to the 2900 block of 5th Street for a truck-vs-motorcycle crash that had just occurred. Shortly after arrival, medical personnel on scene had pronounced the motorcyclist deceased on scene. After speaking to witnesses, police determined both vehicles were travelling northbound on 5th Street. A construction flagger was set up to stop northbound traffic so the truck could navigate the wide right turn into the south parking lot at 353 Fairmont Boulevard. According to witnesses, the motorcyclist disregarded the flagger and continued northbound on 5th Street at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle collided with the construction truck as it made the wide right turning into the south parking lot at 353 Fairmont Boulevard. The motorcyclist is identified as 49-year-old Yvonne Hatcher of Rapid City. The incident remains under investigation by the RCPD’s Critical Accident Reconstruction Team.
