Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Went Welly Wanging In New Zealand

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting ready to say goodbye to their first royal tour together after visiting Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand. The parents-to-be couldn’t fly back to London without playing a spot of welly wanging in New Zealand. Never heard of welly wanging before? Well, you aren’t alone. Welly Wanging is a game that involved tossing a rubber rain boot (aka a Wellington Boot) as far as you can. Simple enough!

The Duke and Sussex competed against each other during their welly wanging match, as well. Nothing like a bit of friendly competition to amp things up! Meghan beat Harry in the end and was awarded a boot-shaped trophy, naturally. She was also gifted a pair of baby rainboots, which will definitely come in handy after she welcomes her first child with Prince Harry.

In case you’re wondering, Mehgan’s toss bested Harry’s toss by about three feet. Don’t mess with the Duchess when it comes to welly wanging.

The Duke and Duchess were at Auckland’s North Shore when they decided to toss some rainboots around with some of the locals. They were there to dedicate a plot of land to the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy, according to Time. The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy is an environmental preservation initiative started in 2015 that aims to unite the whole Commonwealth family to aid in the fight to save forests all around the world. “By creating a pan-Commonwealth network of forest conservation projects, the QCC will mark Her Majesty The Queen’s service to the Commonwealth while conserving indigenous forests for future generations,” the initiative’s mission statement reads.

Environmental conservation has been a major theme for Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s first royal tour. This cause has been close to not only Prince Harry’s heart over the years; it’s also an important cause for Prince Charles and Prince William. It’s great to see Meghan getting involved now, as well.
