Black River EntertainmentKelsea Ballerini is nominated for New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year at the 49th Annual CMA Awards coming up in November. Kelsea found out about her nods on ABC’s Good Morning America as she and Steven Tyler called out the nominations on live television. She tells ABC Radio she isn’t going to freak out about the nominations until she has some alone time.
“I’m just gonna, like, lose it, ’cause I’m so excited,” Kelsea says. “It’s incredible. The CMAs are a big deal, and to be recognized by them and the music industry this early on is such a huge honor.”
Recognition from the CMA is something Kelsea has dreamed about since she was a kid. In fact, watching the annual CMA Awards was one of the biggest events of the year for Kelsea and her mom.
She explains, “It sounds silly, but we would make these big fruit and cheese platters and spread them out all over our coffee table, and like, turn the lights off and just watch the show.”
Any thoughts about a performance or acceptance speech had to wait for the commercial break, too.
“We had, like, a no talking rule,” Kelsea says of their CMA Awards viewing parties. “You weren’t allowed to talk. Just eat the cheese and watch the show.”
Kelsea and her mom will be on hand for the 49th Annual CMA Awards airing live Wednesday, November 4 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
