SUMMARY:Flanagan's Wake
DESCRIPTION:Comedy: “Flanagan’s Wake” stands as a comedy/improv-themed play with a unique style\, holding the distinction of being one of the longest-running productions in the history of Chicago theater. The question of when it will conclude remains open-ended\, as per the words of Brian Ballybunion\, Flanagan’s closest friend and drinking companion\, who humorously quips\, “We’ll keep waking himself until we get it right.” This theatrical experience invites you to immerse yourself in the fictional and picturesque village of Grapplin\, located in County Sligo\, Ireland\, where its residents gather to share anecdotes\, sing songs\, and lament the loss of their fellow villager\, Flanagan.\nAs an audience member\, you will be transported to the enchanting Emerald Isle\, participating in the unique Irish tradition of mourning. You can contribute your own stories and escapades involving the beloved Flanagan or simply revel in the captivating narratives and melodies shared by the local residents as they reminisce about their interactions with “himself.” Once you step into Grapplin\, you’ll pay your respects to the stern-faced Mother Flanagan and console the grieving fiancée\, Fiona Finn. Attend a eulogy penned by the most renowned writer in County Sligo\, Mickey Finn\, and share a drink with the master storyteller Brian Ballybunion.\nYou may also seek blessings from Father Damon Fitzgerald\, the parish priest of St. Gregory’s\, or hope that local mystic Kathleen Mooney doesn’t cast an enchantment upon you. Lastly\, Mayor Martin O’Doul will oversee the proceedings with a firm hand and a thirst that requires quenching.
