About the Rushmore Music Festival: Founded in 2015 by Katie Smirnova and Brett Walfish, the Rushmore Music Festival brings professional musicians from around the world to enrich the cultural life of the Black Hills. The Festival presents a series of audience-engaging chamber music concerts and summer camp programs for students. The performing artists of the Rushmore Music Festival serve as faculty for the student programs, which take place at Black Hills State University in Spearfish. The Festival offers three student programs: an instrumental performance program for developing musicians, a chamber string orchestra experience for intermediate players, and an intensive chamber music immersion program for more advanced students. While serving regional musicians, the festival also strives to provide scholarship opportunities for deserving students across the nation from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. The Rushmore Music Festival is a project of The Black Hills Area Community Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization.
