RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The candidates are in for the June 3 Rapid City municipal election. One Council position is up in each of the city’s five wards.
From March 1 through March 25, potential candidates could circulate petitions, needing 50 validated, registered voter signatures from the ward they’re running for in order to qualify. Candidates had until 5 p.m. Tuesday to file petitions for the election.
Bill Evans, Ward 2, and Greg Strommen, Ward 3, face no opposition and will represent their respective wards for three-year terms when the new city council is sworn in on July 7.
Stephen Tamang and Lawrence “Larry” Adams will compete for the open council seat in Ward 1. Incumbent Jesse Ham is not running for reelection.
Incumbent Lance Lehmann will be challenged by Eltina Three Stars for the council seat in Ward 4.
Incumbent Pat Roseland will be challenged by Callie Meyer for the council seat in Ward 5.
The voter registration deadline is May 19.
Absentee voting is available, beginning May 19, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the Pennington County Auditor’s Office, 130 Kansas City Street.
Early voting ends Monday, June 2 at 6 p.m.
