Inaugural Hockey Day in South Dakota

Visit Rapid City and Rapid City Sports are pleased to announce the Inaugural Hockey Day in South Dakota. “The hockey community in Rapid City is strong and continuing to grow each year. What better way to showcase the fantastic youth, amateur and professional hockey than by promoting our fantastic local hockey organizations together to in one day,” stated Director of Sports and Events for Rapid City Sports, Todd Tucker.
The Inaugural Hockey Day in South Dakota is a collaborative event planned and organized by the Rushmore Hockey Association (RHA), Main Street Square, the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, the Roosevelt Ice Arena, the Northern Hills Hockey Association and the Rapid City Rush. “Hockey Day in South Dakota is a great opportunity to celebrate all the athletes participating in this great sport,” stated Rush President, Joe MacDonell. “Everyone should take some time Saturday to support and watch some hockey at Main Street Square, the Thunderdome or Saturday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center for the Rush’s Marvel Superhero night!”
The day will kick off with an RHA Showcase at the Thunderdome starting at 7:30 am. Shortly after some of the RHA Mites will be playing at Main Street Square at 8:00 am. Then RHA has five league games which start at 11:30 am the Rushmore Thunderdome with the night culminating with the Marvel Superhero Rush game starting at 7:05 pm at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Ice Arena. “Rushmore Hockey Association is excited to participate in the Inaugural Hockey Day South Dakota. We look forward to showcasing hockey in western South Dakota,” stated Christopher Dietrich, Rushmore Hockey Association Board President.
This day is set aside to promote hockey in Rapid City and the Black Hills. There will be a total of 10 hockey related events on Saturday, February 10. “It is an exciting time to be involved with hockey in Rapid City,” stated Parks and Recreation Hockey Program Supervisor, Gary Stanley. A strong, vibrant, committed hockey community of youth, adult, amateur and professional athletes as well as our officials and referees, Rapid City Hockey has come to stay and has come to play! GAME ON!”
