10th Annual MLK Day of Service Food Drive- SDSMT

January 20, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

For the 10th year in a row, student groups from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology will step up to serve as volunteers on the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, collecting food and cash donations at local grocery stores.
The tenth annual food drive will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20. South Dakota Mines volunteers will be at the following locations in Rapid City: both Family Fare locations, Timmons Neighborhood Market, both Safeway locations and both Walmart locations.
The food drive helps to fill the shelves at Feeding South Dakota and the SD Mines student food pantry. Feeding South Dakota has a list of recommended items for donation that can be accessed here.
The annual event honors Dr. King’s legacy and is an opportunity for Rapid City residents to renew their own personal vows of citizenship through service to others. Last year’s MLK Day of Service food drive brought in about 3,550 lbs. of food and over $1,000.
Checks can be made out to Feeding South Dakota. Cash donations will be used to purchase food for the SD Mines student food pantry.
Student organizations participating include The Newman Club, Math Club, India Club, National Society of Black Engineers, Rotoract,  Triangle Fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi, The American Indian Science and Engineering Society, Lambda Chi Alpha, Society of Physics Students, Center of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing and Production and the Hardrocker Dance Team.
