It’s time for amateur gardeners, wildflower hunters, and flower and plant lovers of all ages to make plans to enter the 2018 Hill City Flower Show.Sculpture in your Garden, which will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Boys & Girls Club, across from the 1880 Train in Hill City. Entries will be accepted from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
Children may participate in a hands-on activity between 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
The event is sponsored by the Hill City Evergreen Garden Club, but everyone is invited to enter. Garden Club membership is not required.
There is no entry fee or limit on entries, and although all the entries will be judged, the show is non-competitive. Best in Show and a People’s Choice are awarded, but the entries in each category are judged against standards, not against each other. And given the unpredictable weather of the Hills, the Evergreen Garden Club has broadened and relaxed the show’s rules to encourage the widest participation by area gardeners.
Judging will take place in numerous categories and subcategories of flowers, container gardens, arrangements, table settings, and entries by children.
A brochure with a full list of categories and detailed rules are available at Hill City Visitor Center, area green houses, or can be obtained by calling Merlene Broer at 574-0260 or Sheila Grieme 209-0251.
