Evening Book Café: “Kitchens of the Great Midwest”

September 28, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

September’s Evening Book Café is your chance to discuss the 2017 One Book South Dakota selection with SD Humanities Council Scholar Molly Barari. Join the statewide conversation at Mothership Coffee and Commons (601 Kansas City Street) Thursday, September 28 from 6 – 7 p.m.
Selected as a best book of the year by Amazon, BookPage, LibraryReads and NPR, “Kitchens of the Great Midwest” by J. Ryan Stradel tells of a young woman with a once-in-a-generation palate who becomes the iconic chef behind the country’s most coveted dinner reservation.
Stradal edits the fiction section of “The Nervous Breakdown” with Gina Frangello. His writing has appeared in “The Rumpus,” the Los Angeles Review of Books and “McSweeney’s: The Goods.” Born and raised in Minnesota, he now lives in Los Angeles and has worked as a television producer, notable for the History Channel’s “Ice Road Truckers” and Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch.”
South Dakota Humanities Council Scholar, Molly Barari published her first book “Dakota Heirlooms” in April 2017. The book is a collection of true stories from senior citizens living in the Black Hills. Barari teaches writing workshops & volunteers as a Miss Rapid City Pageant board member.
Attendees will be eligible to draw for a glass coffee mug and gift card.
