Bobby and his wife Caitlin took baby Billie to a restaurant for the first time, their first big adventure besides walks.
Caitlin was the one who encouraged them to finally try it. They planned the outing around Billie’s nap schedule and hoped she would fall asleep in the car seat on the drive there. According to Bobby, the plan worked perfectly at first. She was asleep in the restaurant, but then she started getting a little fussy so Caitlin was holding her while they were eating. They had intentionally picked a restaurant where customers pay at the beginning because he wanted the ability to leave quickly if Billie started crying.
After about 25 to 30 minutes, Bobby was ready to head home, but Caitlin suggested they stay longer so Billie could finish her nap uninterrupted. She also wanted to stay longer because she hadn’t been out of the house like that since before they had baby Billie. Bobby thought they could successfully transfer Billie back into the car seat without waking her up, but the plan quickly failed. She got woken up halfway through her nap during the transfer and then she was fussy the whole rest of the night. Bobby admitted that was all him and reflecting on the situation he learned an important lesson to listen to his wife.
In learning lessons, Bobby also learned that his daughter loves bathwater. She falls asleep almost instantly whenever she hears running water for bath time. When she gets really fussy, he will bounce with her on a stability ball while the bathwater is running to calm her down. Admitting they’ve bought all this other stuff that doesn’t work, but the ball and bathwater are their saviors right now. Eddie recalled driving around in the car late at night to keep his kids calm. Lunchbox’s kids always got carsick so they would use “Baby Bum” on Netflix to stop crying.
