Bobby’s New Dream of Owning a Personal Bunker

Bobby admitted that if there was one unusual thing he would love to buy someday, it would be a bunker.

The idea came from videos he often sees online showing people digging large holes in their yards and placing shipping containers underground to create private bunkers. After lowering the container into the ground, they add stairs, reinforce the structure, and build out an underground living space. The concept fascinated him, and he joked that a bunker would make the perfect birthday gift for his celebration coming up in April.

During the conversation, Amy mentioned a video she had recently sent him about a company that builds luxury bunkers for wealthy clients. The segment featured a builder who constructs underground shelters for billionaires. According to the report, some high-profile individuals have invested heavily in these shelters. The builder demonstrated one of his larger models, which he referred to as a “fat boy” bunker. Unlike traditional bomb shelters that are about seven feet tall, this design was significantly larger and more spacious, closer in size to a small apartment. The builder explained that multiple bunker units can be connected together. In some cases, clients combine several units to create large underground compounds. Each unit costs around $400,000, meaning that installing multiple connected bunkers could cost several million dollars.

Another feature that caught Bobby’s attention was the idea of building secret entrances directly inside a home. Hidden walls or concealed doors could open to reveal staircases leading down to the bunker, turning it into a private underground retreat. The builder said interest in bunkers has grown significantly over the years. When he began building them in 2011, people estimated their chances of experiencing a major war in their lifetime at around one percent. According to him, those perceived odds have increased dramatically in recent years.

While the concept sounded exciting, the cost made it clear that owning a bunker like that would be a major investment. Bobby joked that if he ever did get one, he would probably end up eating all the emergency snacks long before the bunker was actually needed.
