During the walk, a small doodle began following them. The dog stayed close, trailing Amy’s dog as they continued down the street. As they approached a busier road, Amy was concerned about the dog’s safety and decided to try to find its owner. She knocked on a nearby door, and a woman suggested the dog likely belonged to a home in a nearby cul-de-sac. Amy and her friends turned around and headed that way, guessing which house it might be. No one answered at the first two homes they tried. The dog continued following them but wouldn’t let them get close enough to check its collar, barking and backing away whenever they attempted.
As Amy walked away from the second house, a man happened to come outside and head toward his car. She asked if the dog belonged to him. He looked at the dog and immediately said no. The dog began barking. After another glance, the man changed his answer, saying it was his dog. He called the dog by name, and the dog followed him back inside. The man then got into his car and drove away. Amy said the entire interaction felt off. When he drove past them, he didn’t acknowledge them or thank them for helping return the dog. She and her friends began theorizing about what might have happened. One possibility was that he didn’t want the dog back and had hoped it would wander off. They wondered if it could have been a spouse’s dog that he didn’t like. Others offered different explanations, including whether he might not have been wearing glasses or could have been under the influence, though Amy said nothing about him suggested that. The group also briefly floated the idea that he could have been in the middle of something else and was caught off guard.
What stood out most to Amy was how firmly he initially denied the dog was his before quickly changing his answer. The shift, combined with the barking dog and the three women staring at him, made the moment feel especially awkward. In the end, the dog went back inside with the man, but the interaction left Amy and her friends unsettled and wondering what had really happened.
