Amy shared a situation she witnessed involving Lunchbox at the grocery store that sparked a debate about proper line etiquette.
While waiting in line, a woman ahead of Lunchbox left her cart to go grab an item she had forgotten. Her cart stayed in place, holding her spot. Lunchbox, who was behind her, moved around the cart and took the spot in front of it while she was gone. Amy noted that the woman eventually returned and acknowledged the situation, and the two briefly exchanged words. The woman seemed aware that Lunchbox had moved ahead, and Lunchbox responded calmly.
Amy said she wasn’t claiming Lunchbox was wrong, but she personally wouldn’t have done the same thing. She explained that if she were in that situation, she would have pushed the cart forward and held the person’s place in line, as long as the cashier wasn’t waiting on that person to unload groceries. Lunchbox explained his reasoning by saying that once someone leaves the line, they lose their spot. He said he wasn’t concerned about anyone behind him and focused only on moving forward. When it came time to place groceries on the conveyor belt, he put down the divider and proceeded with checkout rather than waiting for the woman to return.
Amy said that if the register had been waiting on the woman, she could understand moving forward, but otherwise she would have stayed put and simply pushed the cart up. She also pointed out that the woman didn’t ask anyone to hold her spot before leaving, which added to the awkwardness of the situation. Lunchbox shared that when the woman returned and commented on what happened, he simply said “thanks,” explaining that his actions weren’t done out of malice.
