A study from the European Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Journal stated that one in three young people starting at age 11 admitted to hitting or throwing objects at their parents. The data showed that age 13 is the peak risk, with 15% of middle schoolers reporting parent-directed violence within the past year.
The Bobby Bones Show discussed how this contrasts with frequent conversations about parental discipline and emphasized concerns about underlying mental health issues, anger, or emotional struggles that may contribute to such behavior. No one on the show ever remembered hitting one of their parents as a child and all noted how unthinkable that behavior felt growing up… except Lunchbox. He shared an incident that occurred at age 26. During a heated game night on Christmas Eve, an argument escalated, resulting in Lunchbox shoving his mom causing her to fall. After the incident, the individual immediately left the house to avoid further conflict and did not return until later communication reassured him that everything was okay.
