Lauren Alaina stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to catch up and talk about life after becoming a mom, her music, and what this new season has been like both personally and professionally.
Lauren shared that becoming a parent has completely changed her life. She talked about navigating new-mom questions, learning things as she goes, and reassuring other parents that it’s okay not to know everything. She also reflected on touring while eight and a half months pregnant with Rascal Flatts, admitting she didn’t fully realize how physically difficult it was until after giving birth. Despite being nervous that she could go into labor on the road, her daughter ultimately arrived 11 days late. She added the best part of motherhood has been the way her daughter looks at her and being the person her baby depends on. She also shared how meaningful it has been watching her husband become a father, especially their daily dance parties when he gets home from work.
Her daughter’s name, Beni Doll, honors family members on both sides. Beni is named after Lauren’s grandfather, who helped raise her, and her husband’s aunt, Lucy Doll. Lauren also shared the emotional moment when she and her husband chose to spell Beni’s name as “BENI,” discovering that the spelling means “crimson” in Japanese, a meaningful connection to her late father, who was a lifelong Alabama fan. Lauren shared how motherhood has shifted her perspective and identity. While her career has always been a huge part of who she is, she said having her daughter has taken pressure off and helped her anxiety by giving her something more important than herself to focus on.
On the music side, Lauren discussed her song “All My Exes,” explaining that her husband encouraged her to release it and even played it for Chase Matthew, which led to their duet. Noting her husband is secure in their relationship and supportive, even as she continues promoting a song about past relationships. Lauren also reflected on touring with Rascal Flatts, calling it a surreal experience filled with hit after hit. She got the opportunity to perform “My Wish” alongside the group, which has taken on a new meaning for her since becoming a parent.
She looked back on her American Idol journey, saying she remains grateful for the show and amazed that her career started when she was just 15 years old. Lauren also talked about competing on Dancing With the Stars, how challenging it was physically and mentally, and why she’s glad she did it. Noting that Bobby was the reason she ended up doing the show.
Lauren wrapped up by sharing her excitement about performing at the iHeartCountry Festival and continuing to balance motherhood with her music career.
