If you’re feeling stressed, what’s your go-to way to relax? That’s the question Bobby Bones posed to the Bobby Bones Show and the answers were a mix of relatable, funny, and very them.
Amy said getting outside for a walk usually does the trick. “That works for me nine times out of ten,” she said. But Bobby wasn’t on board with that idea. “I hate walking,” he admitted. “My ankles hurt. It hurts just to walk down the stairs.” With ankle surgery coming up, he joked that maybe once he’s healed, he’ll finally be “stress free.”
A new survey found that 42% of people say walking helps relieve stress, but the show decided to look at some other science-backed ways to relax and things took an interesting turn. When Bobby brought up reading as a stress reliever, Eddie was out immediately. “It stresses me out to read,” he confessed. “I’ll go through two pages and realize I wasn’t even paying attention, so I have to go back.” Amy tried to give him some encouragement, reminding him that mindset matters: “If you keep telling yourself that story, it’s always going to be true,” she said. But Bobby called Eddie out for making excuses. “You can read, you’ve finished books before! You just don’t like the ones I give you,” he teased, pointing out that he’d given Eddie The Four Agreements and The Alchemist, neither of which Eddie has touched.
When it came to music, everyone could agree it’s a great way to unwind. Amy said rolling the windows down and listening to something like “Cowboy Take Me Away” or “Landslide” helps her reset. Bobby mentioned Counting Crows and Kacey Musgraves albums as his go-tos. And Eddie? “Bob Marley, baby. ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy.’ Takes me straight to the beach.”
Another stress-buster? Playing games. While 21% of people say they use their phones for that, Bobby said gaming on his PlayStation is his way to tune everything out. “It takes my mind off everything else — that’s the point,” he said. Eddie agreed that video games are going to become part of his routine again soon, especially once the baby arrives. “There’s gonna be a lot more video gaming and ball game watching,” he joked. Lunchbox even defended his plan to set up multiple TVs in the nursery. “The baby doesn’t know the difference!” he argued. Amy disagreed, reminding him that babies actually do need calm, dark environments. But Bobby was unfazed. “If it’s born into lights and sounds, that’s normal!” he said confidently.
Between walks, books, music, and games, the show reminded listeners that stress relief looks different for everyone. But if you’re Eddie, just don’t expect it to involve reading.
