The Bobby Bones Show always talks about scam alerts and this week there are three to be looking out for in your world of technology.
Morgan shared that “Matt Stell’s mom” has been commenting back to people on The Bobby Bones Show Facebook page, but it’s not actually his mom. It’s a scammer pretending to be and saying her son would want them to connect. Seeing the message, one can tell that it’s a scammer because they say the artist’s name four different times. However, people fall for it because they don’t know the artist’s parents’ names and think it could actually be true. This is an official warning not to fall for any person claiming to be an artist’s family member just to get you to message them.
Bobby shared ones that going around on social media that Morgan nearly fell for over a year ago. People are writing social media messages to people saying they want to paint a picture of them, or do a mural of their picture, but it’s actually a scam to steal their information. The accounts look real, full of an artist’s portfolio, but they aren’t. So if you get one of these messages, exit and delete immediately.
Eddie almost fell for a DMV scam that came through in text message form. He received a text from the Department of Motor Vehicles saying he had an unpaid ticket and needed to pay it ASAP or he would face repercussions. Eddie has been waiting for his new tag in the mail and thought it was connected to this, so that was why he never received it. This is more of a coincidence of timing than anything, which the scammers may also be lurking for people recently utilizing DMV services to then send such a text. Nonetheless, if you receive a text message like this and don’t want to ignore it, call your local DMV directly to inquire.
