Elizabeth Nichols is a new voice in country music after releasing her first song in December, she came on the Bobby Bones Show as her song “I Got A New One” is continuing to go viral on social media.
Nichols moved to Nashville in August, and she released her first song in December. Originally, she had moved to Nashville for law school, but in January she received a DM on social media from someone who worked on The Kelly Clarkson Show asking if they could use her song “I Got A New One.” After that message she decided to drop out of law school and chase music for now. Then months later, Nichols got a text from her grandma that Clarkson was covering her song on the show. She has no idea how the person who worked on the show discovered her song in the first place, but she was very thankful.
There are three guy names mentioned in the song, one of them being “Jackson,” which also happens to be the name of the co-writer on the song. This song was also Nichols first ever co-write. She’s originally from Kentucky, but went to college in Oklahoma. She had started writing music about a year before moving to Nashville, she was a writing major in college and had sang a lot in church growing up so it came natural for her. Her singing in church was a family affair, both her father and grandfather were pastors. She admitted she could have never imagined how much her life has changed over the past year. She originally went to college to go into corporate law, she finished undergrad and got her masters in business administration so when she told her parents she was dropping out of law school to pursue music they were happy for her. Her dad has a printed calendar in his room with every show of hers written on it and he already bought a ticket to every single one.
Since her song has gone viral, she’s opened up for Little Big Town, booked a few festivals this year, and she newly released an EP with the song on it. They’re seeing how all the songs stream for further next steps, but she shared she will always give people what they want and play this song.
