Cole Swindell is about to be a dad and he’s putting a new record out this summer. He stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to share all the exciting news.
Swindell did fount out that he and his wife Courtney are having a baby girl. He didn’t care what the gender was as long as Courtney and the baby were healthy, but he added that his wife was SO excited when she realized it was a girl and that was a cool moment for him. They’re keeping the baby name private for now, but they are likely going to stick with family needs. He has already written several ideas for dad and baby inspired songs, but his upcoming album was already finished before he found out he would be a dad. So fans will have to wait for some singles or the next record for his dad music.
Bobby Bones had told the show how athletic Swindell was because once upon a time he was a big athlete. Swindell shared that sports were his passion, but he also went to a small school so he played every sports and many positions. In football, he was the wide receiver, corner back, punter, and kick return to name a few. But then he quit sports and started playing bars, it wasn’t until around 10th grade that he got his first guitar. He attempted to learn a Dave Matthews song as his first song, but quickly learned guitar playing wasn’t for him.
His song that most of his fans have connected with is “You Should Be Here,” and for Swindell it’s a song that will always mean a lot to him. He doesn’t have many songs that are that personal and emotional, and he’s happy that this is the one song he can always be known for. His fans also go crazy over “She Had Me At Heads Carolina,” he loves seeing the kids in the crowd knowing every word to this song because it takes him back to the 90s when he was a kid falling in love with music. When asked on his Mt. Rushmore of country artists his list included Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw and Reba.
As for Swindell’s new album Spanish Moss, the title was inspired by a day playing golf with one of his friends. His friend asked what the moss was all about on the golf course they were playing at and Swindell shared the story of how it reminded him of his dad and his family. That’s where the song “Spanish Moss” was born and it turned into a song about a forgotten summer and ended up becoming the title track. This album has 21 songs on it, which was a lot for him. This new album also features the song “Forever To Me,” which is the song Swindell wrote for his wife. Swindell had two writers join him on the road and they asked if he had written a wedding song yet, and he hadn’t. That’s when they asked Swindell to describe his wife Courtney and he said “she’s forever to me,” and that was the moment the song was born.
