On March 13th at around 12:30 a.m., police were dispatched to 609 Mountain View Road for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. On arrival, police made contact with an employee of the business who said that an unknown male subject entered the casino, pointed a firearm at the employee, and demanded money. The employee complied and the male left the business. A short time later, a Pennington County Sheriff’s Deputy advised they had located a vehicle of interest in the robbery travelling northbound on Sturgis Road. The vehicle, an RV camper, was stopped after it crossed into Meade County, and the occupants were ordered out. A male, later identified as 58-year-old Michael Daker of Rapid City, exited the vehicle and was placed in handcuffs. The casino employee was transported to the scene of the traffic stop and positively identified Daker as the suspect from the robbery. Daker was placed under arrest for First Degree Robbery before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
Daker has also been placed under arrest for three additional counts of First Degree Robbery as the suspect responsible for the March 11th robbery of 620 Latrobe Avenue, March 3rd robbery of 1601 Haines Avenue, and the February 22nd robbery of 2215 Haines Avenue. The RCPD Criminal Investigations Division would like to extend its appreciation to the various area law enforcement agencies that assisted the investigation into these robberies.
