On January 11th at around 10:05 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Doolittle Street for a report of a disturbance. On arrival, police observed a Chevrolet Traverse parked in the driveway of the residence. As police attempted to speak with the driver of the vehicle, they backed out of the driveway and proceeded west on Doolittle Street. The officer returned to their vehicle and followed the Traverse. Police stopped the vehicle along Interstate-90 near exit 58. As police made contact with the female driver, they noted the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. At one point during the interaction, the female drove away from the traffic stop. Police pursued the vehicle as it turned off the interstate at exit 59. The vehicle continued south on Lacrosse Street, then west on Anamosa before turning south on Racine Street. The vehicle turned west on E. College Avenue before striking a power pole at the intersection of E. College Avenue and Milwaukee Street. Police ordered the driver out of the car and she was taken into custody. She was identified as 38-year-old Tia Saknikent of Rapid City. Following a DUI investigation, it was determined Saknikent was too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle. Police located several open alcohol containers in the vehicle. Saknikent was placed under arrest for DUI, Eluding, Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, No Proof of Insurance, and two Warrants. She was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
