RAPID CITY'S #1 FOR NEW COUNTRY KICK 104

On July 26th at around 4:45 p.m., police were in Memorial Park when they were approached by an intoxicated female exhibiting signs of heat exhaustion. Police called a medical unit to the scene so she may be evaluated. As officer were waiting for the medical unit to arrive, the female began running toward Rapid Creek and jumped in. She was immediately swept away by the high current. Several officer ran alongside the creek in an effort to rescue her. At a location between the 5th Street bridge and Pressler Junction, she was swept under a fallen tree trunk. Three officers jumped in the creek and worked to pull her out. A medical unit arrived to the scene and transported her to the hospital for serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Water flows in Rapid Creek remain at an elevated and extremely dangerous level. When these conditions are present, a person can get swept away very quickly. The public is advised not to recreate in Rapid Creek during these increased flow rates.
