Kacey Musgraves Covers Roger Miller’s ‘Kansas City Star’: Listen

Texas greets Nashville on Kacey Musgraves‘ faithful homage to the late Roger Miller with an honest rendition of the country star’s well-known ditties. The 29-year-old songbird was asked to render her personal interpretation of Miller’s 1965 hit “Kansas City Star” as part of the upcoming King Of The Road: A Tribute To Roger Miller compilation record.
One of country music’s brightest crossover artists, Musgraves fully imbues herself in the tribute, echoing Miller’s honky-tonk trills and quakey drawl and spirals in her trademark yodels here and there.

In a 2015 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the “Butterflies” singer named Miller as one of the many musical motivations behind her country-folk album Same Trailer. So we can only imagine how excited she must have been to receive the order to contribute on the project alongside acts like Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson and others.Musgraves’ involvement on King Of The Road marks yet another impressive feat for the budding solo artist who has experienced quite the career boost this year. She recently concluded a tour as the opening act for Harry Styles and celebrated the release of her fourth major label album, Golden Hour, back in March.
