On 06-12-2018 at about 1:59 p.m. the Rapid City Police Department responded to the area of Gemstone Dr. & Parkview Dr. for the sighting of a mountain lion in the area. Officers checked the area extensively, but they were not able to find the lion. The South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Department was notified of the sighting, responded to the area, and took over the search for the lion.
