Eddie’s dad is in his 70s and unfortunately fell for a scam recently. He received an email from “Amazon” that said one of his orders won’t ship due to his payment information not being correct and to click on the link to fix it. He did and it took him to a website that looked just like Amazon. He provided his full name, Social Security number, his debit card number and driver’s license number. It was full identity theft.
When he told Eddie all the information he provided, he freaked out. Eventually his bank called about suspicious activity, nothing crazy, but they wanted to double check. His dad explained what happened and because they can take his entire identity, they have to take precautions in every way they can and canceled everything.
The lesson here is to keep in mind that Amazon doesn’t need your Social Security number or driver’s license.
