Psychological thrillers usually aren’t for the faint of heart, but Lucy Hale teases her new show, Ragdoll, will be a “unique” and intriguing experience.ing experience.
Hale stars as Lake Edmunds, an American detective in London racing against time to stop the “Ragdoll Killer,” a murderer who dismembers and sews his victims together into grotesque figures.
Hale tells ABC Audio that Ragdoll offers an “interesting balance of a great British crime show mixed in with something that actually makes you laugh out loud at times,” noting the show’s “underlying dark humor.”
“This was an action show, too,” she adds. “We were doing stunts!”
The Pretty Little Liars alum says, aside from “the blend of genres,” she was also captivated by the “extreme characters.” She says Edmunds is a “smart” woman with “a good heart” who’s “running away from something in her life.”
“It still catches up with her,” Hale warned, saying the audience will learn how a “singular experience” made Edmunds leave America and “why she got into this line of work and why she so desperately wants to do the right thing.”
While Hale admires Edmunds, she’s also “very suspicious of everyone.” The actress hints that the green detective’s “deep insecurity” and inability to trust others may add to her laundry list of problems.
In addition, Hale mused, “Maybe she does have a bad bone in her body.”
While psychological thrillers are “a challenging genre to get right,” Hale believes Ragdoll hits the mark and will keep everyone on their toes with its “many twists” — especially when they involve the villain.
“What got me is the way the Ragdoll killer hurts his victims. He does them in very unique ways, very twisted, very medieval ways,” she divulged.
Ragdoll, a six-episode special, premieres Thursday on AMC+.
