TMSG: Nurse Braids & Brushes Patients Hair On Her Days Off

Las Vegas ER nurse Brooke Johns has been a nurse for 2.5 years and she’s been helping her patients while on and off the clock.

While she’s not on the clock, she volunteers to pamper patients. During her visits, Johns will brush or braid the hair of any patients who request her service. She wants to provide patients with kindness and a human connection while they’re hospitalized. She told KNTV“There’s something therapeutic about the human touch, as well. Human talking, human touching, it’s that connection we’re all hard-wired for.”

Johns started doing these after a friend ran into a problem while at the hospital battling an illness. Her friend was too weak to brush out her hair herself, and Johns said it was “something she was very worried about.” So Johns brushed and braided her hair and when she left the room, her friend was a different person.

More nurses have started to follow in Johns’ footsteps, and she hopes to get a chance to dress up as Elsa from Frozen and visit younger patients at a Children’s Hospital once visitation restrictions are lifted.
