TMSG: Dog Tags Lost In 1967 Returned To Vietnam Veteran This Year

Decorated Vietnam War veteran Dennis Kostendader lost his military ID tags in 1967 while in combat. After decades of thinking he would never get them back, they’ve just been returned.

They were recently found by the Vietnamese government and sent back to the United States. They’ve been reunited with Kostendader who can put them next to his Silver Star and four Purple Hearts. He doesn’t remember losing his dog tags, but told CBS New York, “It’s kind of amazing, yeah, after all these years.”

Kostendader doesn’t consider himself a hero, in fact he doesn’t believe he should have made it saying, “I shouldn’t have survived. I should not have.”
