TMSG: Man Home For The Holidays After 118 Days In Hospital With COVID-19

Darell Slater got to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with his family after COVID-19 had him in the hospital for several months.

71-year-old Slater was first diagnosed with COVID-19 on July 13, along with his wife. However, after two weeks of quarantine, she recovered and he did not. Slater also suffers from Parkinson’s disease and Rheumatoid arthritis. His family took him to the emergency room when he was getting worse in the following days after the quarantine where he was diagnosed with double pneumonia caused by COVID-19.

For weeks, doctors didn’t think Slater was going to make it. He was transported to a new hospital and put on ECMO, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. His family encouraged him to be strong and kept praying and an hour later he started breathing and doing everything on his own.

On September 18th, Slater finally tested negative for COVID-19, and was moved to a medical rehab facility. His family didn’t give up hope on him and because of that Slater got to spend Thanksgiving with his loved ones.
