In honor of Veteran’s Day and Bobby’s fiancé Caitlin loving his music, Craig Morgan stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to catch us up on his life and give us an epic performance of his biggest hits.
Morgan shared his story about how he got into the military and what his life was like before that. He told Bobby Bones that he grew up wanting to do something bigger than just being himself. Before joining the military, he served in his community’s fire department and was an EMT. Then after leaving the military, he became a police officer. He always felt the desire to help other people and truly believed that it was just the human thing to do. He confessed that he’s still transitioning from being a veteran to being a citizen and will probably always be working on that. He added that once you live a lifestyle that’s so unimaginable for a long period of time, it becomes more and more difficult to transition into a life not like it.
His transition period was definitely still happening when he decided to pursue a music career. He confessed that he stayed in the Active Reserves during his first years of pursuing music because he didn’t think the singing thing would work out for him. At the time, he had already spent 10 and a half years in active duty. He was so well versed in the place that his commanders believed he had the potential to be Sergeant General of the Army. Though, his commanders also had more confidence in him and his music career than Morgan did.
It wasn’t until Morgan was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2008 that he really felt his career was moving forward. His invitation to the Opry actually came to the Fort Bragg base, where he totally lost it and was in full on tears. Even his fellow soldiers were so proud of him that they were crying along with him.
When he’s not working on his music, Morgan is big into the outdoors and eating healthy. He shared that he really loves to hunt and does so often that he and his wife haven’t bought meat from the store in over 15 years. He believes his time in the woods with the sun and smells is really rejuvenating and important for his health. Morgan has also pursued an acting career and already been in 3 movies and a TV show. He says acting is when he gets the most nervous, because it’s the situation where he doesn’t really know what he’s doing, but he wants to represent the country music genre well. His most recent venture is Lifetime’s A Welcome Home Christmas featuring Jana Kramer.
Craig Morgan performed several of his big hits while on the show “That’s What I Love About Sundays,” “Almost Home,” “International Harvester,” “Redneck Yacht Club,” and “Going Out Like This,” plus his unreleased song “The Mask.”
