TMSG: Music Teachers Fill 7,500 Bags With Instruments For Kids At Home

Teachers deserve some serious shoutouts right now for the work they’re doing with students in school and learning virtually.

Stephanie Kapsa and a team of music teachers in the Appleton Area School District in Appleton, Wisconsin spent their summer drafting a plan that would allow all of their students to keep learning music despite the chaos of the pandemic with a mixture of virtual and in-person learning.

They reached out to local music vendors, worked with their superintendent, gathered volunteers and secured over $56,000 in funding. The group was able to fill 7,500 bags with a collection of music items: an egg shaker, rhythm sticks, cup, boom whacker, and scarf. They also made buckets with drumsticks for the older kids working on their rhythm and percussion skills.

Over the last week, 7,452 music kits for AASD elementary students were assembled with the help of community volunteers….
