The coronavirus pandemic has brought a lot of hard stories in the news, but it has also turned out some really good stories about people doing good for others. From teachers making extra efforts with their kids from afar to anonymous payments for rent to customers helping restaurants, the stories of good things happening across the country are everywhere.
Bobby Bones decided to highlight just some of the awesome things happening by expanding ‘Tell Me Something Good’ into a whole segment full of five good news stories amid the coronavirus outbreak. Here they are:
1. An ice cream shop in Cape Cod had to shut down a day after re-opening because of unruly customers. Then, the owner started a GoFundMe for a 17-year-old employee who was verbally abused. And people have already donated tens of thousands of dollars for her college fund.
2. A 54-year-old guy near L.A. was in the hospital for 64 days, and doctors gave him a 1% chance of surviving. But he just got discharged the other day, and the entire staff cheered for him as he walked out. His name is Gregg Garfield.
3. A couple in Michigan who both got the virus had to be hospitalized. The wife ended up on a ventilator for several weeks, and they couldn’t visit each other at all. But they both beat it, and had a pretty emotional reunion last week. Even though they’re considered recovered, they still a long way to go from living the life they once did, but they are even more determined to get there and make it better. They’re sharing their story so no one else gives up either.
4. There’s a new world’s oldest person to survive COVID-19. A 113-year-old woman in Spain recently recovered. She also beat the Spanish flu as a kid. She was born in Mexico on March 4, 1907, and now lives in a residential care home in Olot, Girona. She tested positive for the virus in April and is said to have now overcome the infection.

5. Qatar Airways is giving 100,000 free plane tickets to healthcare workers in countries all around the world so they can take a vacation when all this is over. The giveaway marks National Nurses Day, and registrations for the offer will run from today until Monday, May 18th. Each healthcare professional will receive two complimentary economy class return tickets – one for them and one for a companion. Each country will receive a daily allocation of tickets depending on its population size, and the release of tickets will be staggered over the coming seven days.
