Weapons Call

On April 20th at around 5:10 a.m., police were called to 2600 block Homestead Street for a report of gunshots heard in the area. Police arrived and made contact with several witnesses. Police determined the incident began as a dispute over ownership of a vehicle. At one point, a male party attempted to drive the vehicle away. A second male (later identified as 30-year-old Shaun Shorter of Rapid City) went into the house, retrieved a firearm, and began firing at the moving vehicle. Contact was made with Shorter. A search warrant was written for the residence. While executing the search warrant, police recovered several firearms, along with drug items and associated paraphernalia, from the residence. One of the firearms was a shotgun with a sawed-off barrel. Shorter was ultimately placed under arrest for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Commission of a Felony with a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Firearm, and Receiving Stolen Property. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
