Jo’s Album Review- “Southside” by Sam Hunt

If you’ve ever been a relationship that has challenged you mentally and emotionally, this is your anthem album. Sam shares all the ups and downs of his relationship and through his lyrics you feel the emotional roller coaster he went through as well as the lady in his life. Now, he is happily married now, so maybe his next album will be all about moving forward and good things, what do you think Sam?

This week during the New at Noon I highlighted some songs off the album that haven’t hit radio yet including “Let It Down,” “Nothing Lasts Forever,” “Young Once,” “2016” and “Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90’s.” All of these songs are unique and sound like a solid Sam Hunt song. Even though he has released many of these songs to radio over the last couple years, it’s awesome to know there are still many a gems on “Southside.” Check out a few of his music videos to some of these tunes.

“Young Once”- This music video just came out yesterday. It follows a couple of “young” adults running from the reality of their life. Worth a watch.

“That Ain’t Beautiful” – ADULT LANGUAGE- This tune is about as honest as they get, reminding us all not to be that person. The person who says and does things that we shouldn’t.

Overall, this is a great album. Sam has an identifiable sound and it comes across in every song on this album. With that being said, I give “Southside” 4 out of 5 Dudes. Well done Sam, now please don’t wait another five years to release an album.
