Robbery/Scam

At around 10:20 on April 9th, police were dispatched to a report of a robbery at 4011 Triple Crown Drive. A male subject had just gone through the bank’s drive-through to make a withdrawal. During the transaction, the male had passed a handwritten note to the teller indicating a robbery was taking place and the words ‘don’t make noise.’ The male then left the area in his vehicle. Police were able to track the male down and located him in the parking lot of 100 Stumer Road. He advised he had received a phone call earlier in the morning from a caller with a foreign accent. The caller indicated that he had kidnapped the man’s sister. The caller went on to say he would release the sister if the man sent him money via wire transfer. At the time police made contact the them man, he had just sent the money via wire transfer. Police were able to determine the man’s sister was never in any harm and that the incident is the a result of a scam. Police have received at least one other report of a similar scam call. Requests for money transfers or payment in gift cards/reloadable debits cards are a dead giveaway of a scam phone call. Should there be a credible threat to the safety of a loved one, call police immediately.
