Pursuit

On April 13th at around 7:50 a.m., police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Atlas Street for a report of a stolen vehicle seen in the area. Police located the vehicle parked in a driveway. Police approached the driver’s side window in an attempt to make contact with a female sleeping in the driver’s seat, identified as 37-year-old Danielle Lucas of Rapid City. Lucas was awoken and ordered out of the vehicle. She refused to comply with these commands and backed out of the driveway. In the process, she struck a parked vehicle and nearly struck an officer. She then put the vehicle in drive and left the area. Police located the vehicle heading northbound on Nickel Street. At one point during the pursuit, the vehicle crashed through a chain link fence to head north on I-190 in the wrong lane of traffic. The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons. The vehicle was later located driving westbound on Interstate 90. Law enforcement pursued the vehicle and observed it leave the roadway, drive into the ditch, and go through a fence in the area of 11300 J B Road. Lucas was seen running from the vehicle. She was located hiding inside the storage area of a camper. She was ordered out and placed under arrest for Motor Vehicle Theft, Aggravated Eluding, Obstruction, Driving Under Suspension, and two counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
