Trooper Johnson Answered Frequently Asked Officer Questions

The Bobby Bones Show has been having several guest hosts stop by the show in place of Lunchbox while he’s gone on paternity leave. Today’s guest (March 4) was Trooper Johnson, he was in the marine corps and now works on the Tennessee Governor’s executive protection detail. The show is a big supporter of first responders and having on Trooper Johnson made Bobby Bones geek out.

Bones wanted to ask any and all questions that he’s ever wondered about police officers. Here’s his questions:

  • Can you honk at a police officer if the red light turns green and they don’t move? Yes you can. Trooper Johnson says he’s not the kind to hunt you down afterwards, but he’s only speaking for himself.
  • Can I get a speeding ticket for going 1 mph over the limit? Yes. Technically you are going over the speed limit so only 1 mph over is breaking the law.
  • Can I really make a citizen’s arrest? You can, but you have to actually see a legitimate felony happen. Otherwise, you’re not really helping.
  • What do movies and TV get wrong and right about police work? Trooper Johnson says the investigative side of things is pretty exaggerated, no evidence ever really moves that quickly.
  • Can you get arrested if you should “OH CRAP!” in front of an officer and then take off running? Trooper Johnson says he would probably just think that person is odd. He wouldn’t chase after that person.
