Weapons Call

Police were dispatched to 2200 N. Maple Avenue after receiving reports of an individual with a gun at the location. Numerous officers arrived at the location, some of which were directed by witnesses to a male subject in the south parking lot. Police made contact with the individual, later identified as 48-year-old Kenneth Woods of Rapid City. Woods was extremely agitated in the initial contact with law enforcement and initially refused to comply with officer commands. As officers continued to communicate with him, he became compliant and was detained without further incident. He gave police a false name, but was positively identified by officers and police determined he had a warrant for his arrest. Detectives from the RCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division arrived to the scene to begin speaking to witnesses about the incident. After speaking to witnesses, along with searches of Woods’ person and vehicle, police located no evidence of a firearm being involved in the incident. A search of Woods’ vehicle did turn up a syringe and a clear plastic baggie which both field-tested positive for methamphetamine. He was placed under arrest for Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and an existing Warrant.
