Pursuit

On September 22nd at around 2:30 a.m., police observed a Chrysler Concorde travelling westbound on Anamosa Street without a properly illuminated license plate. A traffic stop on the vehicle was initiated in the area of Anamosa Street and Milwaukee Street. The vehicle did not stop and officers pursued the Concorde as it circled around the city’s north side. As the vehicle turned to head westbound on Main Street from Steele Street, police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.  Another officer, positioned at East Boulevard and Main Street before the pursuit was terminated, observed the suspect vehicle approach the intersection at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle got closer to the intersection, it suddenly served to the left, lost control, hit a curb, and came to rest in the parking lot at 500 East Boulevard. The suspect driver then attempted to flee from the disabled vehicle. Officers pursued on foot and were able to detain the suspect driver shortly after. He was identified as 33-year-old Robert Whiteplune of Rapid City and placed under arrest for Aggravated Eluding, Obstruction, and an existing Warrant. Whiteplume was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
