Seventeen-year-old Tanvi Barman travels to different homeless shelters around the Bay area and throws personalized parties for children there.
Barman has been working on this since she was in eighth grade to create the organization “No Birthday Left Behind.” She got the idea when she was volunteering with her family at a homeless shelter. It hit her as she got older that the pleasures in life like birthday parties – may be unavailable to homeless children.
Her organization started reaching out to local vendors for kids’ party food, entertainment, and collecting donations for decorations. Her efforts inspired several homeless shelters in the area to reach out to her organization with young residents that had a birthday coming up.
There’s always good news somewhere!
When Tanvi Barman learned kids in homeless shelters weren’t able to have birthday cakes & parties to celebrate, she took action.
