On September 3rd at around 6:10 a.m., police were dispatched to 4181 Jackson Boulevard for a report of an unresponsive male who was located near a walking path in the park. On arrival, medical units determined the male was obviously deceased with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The deceased individual was later identified as 59-year-old David Butler of Rapid City. A firearm was located in proximity to the location where Butler was discovered. Member of the RCPD and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Divisions continue to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding Butler’s death.
