On July 27th at around 9:15 a.m., police received multiple calls of gunshots heard coming from the parking lot at 1304 Atlas Street. On arrival, police located shell casings in two different locations within the parking lot. After speaking to witnesses on scene, police determined a white SUV and a Gold passenger car were both involved in the shooting. The passenger car is registered to 23-year-old Dwight Mesteth of Rapid City. Mesteth was later located at 1302 Wambli Drive. On further investigation, police determined the shooting started as a verbal exchange between parties in the two vehicles. Another suspect (later identified as 23-year-old Jezic Returns From Scout of Rapid City) exited the white SUV and fired one round at the passenger car. Mesteth returned fire at the SUV with several rounds. Police made contact with Returns From Scout later in the day at 1311 Atlas Street. Both vehicles were searched, and police recovered both handguns believed to be involved in the shooting. Mesteth was placed under arrest for three counts of Aggravated Assault. Returns From Scout was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Both were transported to the Pennington County Jail. No one was injured in the gunfire.
