On July 12th at around 2:40 a.m., police were dispatched to 1627 Mt. Rushmore Road for a report of a robbery that had just taken place. It was reported the suspect entered the store, threatened the clerk, and then took items from the store. The suspect was last seen walking north on Mt. Rushmore Road. A suspect description was aired over the radio, and police located the suspect carrying one of the stolen items in the area of Mt. Rushmore Road and Clark Street. He was ordered to drop the property and put his hands behind his back. The suspect was initially non-compliant, but another officer arrived and he was safely taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was identified as 54-year-old Steven Ray Long of Rapid City. The store clerk was brought to the scene and positively identified Long as the suspect. The property taken from the store was recovered from his person. Long was placed under arrest for 2nd Degree Robbery and a Warrant before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
