Maren Morris Shares Defiant Game Of Thrones-Inspired Track ‘Kingdom Of One’

Game of Thrones is returning for its eighth and final season on Sunday (April 14), and to celebrate what’s bound to be an epic ending to quite possibly *the* most beloved shows on television, HBO is releasing a star-studded soundtrack of music inspired by the series.

The latest taste of what to expect from For The Throne is Maren Morris‘ stark, defiant anthem “Kingdom of One.” Led by a minor chord progression strummed on an acoustic guitar, the song is steely and bleak — much like its subject material. “So you wanna play God?/ Come on/ Is that all you got? Come on,” she asks in the chorus. “Would you sell your soul? Burn it all/ Everything that you love/ Finally become second to none/ In a kingdom of one.” The lines sound eerily like something Cersei Lannister would say. Or perhaps this is a question Daenerys Targaryen is asking herself. Is it worth sacrificing everyone and everything to win the throne?

Listen to Morris’ thought-provoking new track below.

For the Throne is slated for an April 26 release. It also features music by Travis ScottThe LumineersEllie Goulding, and a wide range of other contemporary artists.
