Kane Brown Discusses Unconventional Upbringing On ‘Good As You’ Video Set

On Thursday (April 4), Kane Brown shared an emotional video for his latest single, “Good As You,” that depicts his somewhat unconventional upbringing, being raised by his mother and grandmother. While on the set of the sentimental clip, Entertainment Tonight chatted with the country star about his childhood and how it inspired the song and its corresponding visuals.

“My mom, my nana, my aunt raised me, so I was raised by all women, listening to Shania Twain, Sugarland — all female artists,” Brown said. “They just did this good job. My mom was basically my dad, my nana was my mom.”

“And, it’s just awesome being raised by women because I can relate to them so much,” he continued. “It kinda helped me in the real world, so this is just an awesome video basically paying tribute to my nana and my mom and how they raised me. I love them very much.”

However, even though he grew up in a loving household, times weren’t always bright for Brown growing up. “I grew up a little different,” he divulged. “I was bullied at school, so that was hard and I grew up with hardly any money and I feel like there’s a lot of scenes in here where you can actually really see how I was raised.”
