Midland Recalls The Long Night That Followed Last Year’s ACM Win

Last year, Midland went into the ACM Awards already knowing they were winners for New Vocal Duo or Group, so it was inevitable that there was going to be an after party. The guys hit the casino, and Mark Wystrach jokes, “At the ACMs I had cash in my pocket because I took the ACM award and went and gambled with it and doubled my money on it. I’m kidding, I still have it, it’s hanging up on my mantelpiece. That’s a lie, I don’t have a mantelpiece but it’s sitting somewhere in my house.”

Jess Carson ended up at a blackjack table with a bunch of other artists, including Morgan Wallen, and one by one everybody left to catch their plane, leaving Jess and Morgan as the last men standing, or so they thought. “Morgan and I thought we were the last men standing because we were literally sitting at a craps table at like 5:00am,” recalls Jess. “And then the casino was like empty and we were walking towards the exit and we were like walking across the casino and we could hear this shouting and there was one craps table that had a crowd around it. We walked past this craps table, and of all people, literally rolling the dice was Thomas Rhett.”

Mark joked that Thomas was taking full advantage of the fact that he had a babysitter that night, and Cameron Duddy, who is a father said, “Yeah, you have to.”

Midland, who just released their brand new single, “Mr. Lonely,” heads into this year’s ACM Awards with two nominations, for Vocal Group and Video of the Year for “Burn Out.” Be sure to watch the ACM Awards, hosted by Reba McEntire, live from Las Vegas, this Sunday night, on CBS. And if you’ll be in Las Vegas, you can also catch Midland as part of the ACM Stories, Songs and Stars event on Friday night.
