Two Sisters Survived 44 Hours Lost in the California Woods

Two sisters survived being lost in the woods of California for 44 hours and wilderness training may have played a role in their survival.

Caroline Carrico, 5 and Leia Carrico, 8 were found this weekend less than 2 miles from their home according to County Sheriff William Honsal.

During a news conference on Sunday, Sherriff Honsal said,”This was rugged territory, this is an extreme environment and how they were out there for 44 hours is pretty amazing but it shows a resilience of people that actually grew up in this community. These girls definitely have a survival story to tell”.

The two girls had gone for a walk near their home last Friday afternoon and ended up getting lost in the woods. The girls recounted that they found shelter under a fallen tree branch, drank water from huckleberry leaves, and used their jackets for blankets.

Despite surviving the wilderness all weekend, the pair were found safe and returned safely home to their parents.
