On February 18th, an incident was reported to police regarding an assault involving a firearm. No one was physically injured during the incident but the victim advised a firearm was displayed in a threatening manner. The incident was reported to have occurred on February 16th at a residence in the 1100 block of Hyland Drive.
After conducting a thorough investigation, police arrested 49-year-old Daniel Janklow of Rapid City for Aggravated Assault. Janklow was taken into custody on February 25th and placed at the Pennington County Jail without incident.

Due to Janklow’s position as Principal of the Meadowbrook Elementary School, the Rapid City Police Department has been working closely with Rapid City Area School officials to ensure continued safety for the school and community. This incident did not involve students or the school environment.
“We are grateful for our working relationship with the Rapid City Area School District as collaboration is crucial during active investigations,” says Chief of Police Karl Jegeris. “Safety for the community is a shared goal of both the Rapid City Police Department and the School District, and we are glad the investigation resulted in a peaceful resolution.”
Further inquiries on this case will be referred to the Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office.
