Amy’s Pile: 230 New Emojis Are Coming

New year means new emojis! The final emoji list for 2019 is here and has been approved by the Unicode Consortium, which includes 230 new emojis coming to major platforms this year.

This new set of emojis expands the scope of people that can be represented, including people with various disabilities, a gender inclusive couple, and a mix of skin tones for people holding hands. Emoji 12.0 has 59 distinct new emojis, 75 when gender variations are taken into account and 230 new emojis when all skin tone options are also included. As far as the fun side of emojis go… aka food, animals and faces… the new list introduces a flamingo, otter, guide dog, waffle, sloth and a yawning face amongst others. There will also be new colored circles and squares in the release as well as the much requested white heart emoji.
